Established in early 2014 by a group of likeminded friends scattered over South Africa with the love of helping others. ECSA became the middle man between ordinary South African communities and emergency services. Dispatching services to various emergencies, whether it be, fire emergencies, breakdown services, hazardous spills, bee and snake removals, as well as missing persons, all the necessary services and assistance would be arranged at no cost countrywide. This was done via various applications accessible by most communities.
The ECSA Fire Rescue Unit provides specialized rapid intervention teams to respond to fire call outs, grass as well as structure fire incidents, vehicle accident assist at major motor vehicle accidents and support the above-mentioned entities with support in Missing Persons and Search and Rescue Operations providing Aquatic Rescue Response Teams as well as Technical Rescue functions to mention a few. We work according to the city’s regulations and guidelines and follow instructions according to the need of senior personnel within the districts that we operate.
The unit members have previously been activated to international disaster zones and are also on standby for international activation for disaster response and relief within various other organizations. As membership grew with countless logged calls, a need for assistance in fire and rescue was established and we then registered as ECSA JHB Westrand.
Our members are trained in various aspects of firefighting, rescue and public safety which created the ECSA Voluntary Operational Fire Rescue Unit we have today. Since then Emergency Control Services South Africa (ECSA) also a member of the Fire Professions Council of Southern Africa (FPCSA) became a registered Non-Profit Organization (NPO) registered with the Department of Social Development with registration no:(213-627 NPO) under Disaster/Emergency Relief, Prevention and Control.
A volunteer Fire Rescue Organization solely operating on self-funding by its members and not requesting any remuneration for services rendered to all the communities that the unit assists. Extensive training, refresher courses, uniform, equipment and personal protective equipment of various kinds are funded internally by its members. The 31 man/woman strong team has been working closely on various call outs with the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Service (COJEMS), Mogale City Response Services, K9 Search and Rescue, Water and Air Wing units of the South African Police Service. The need was discovered to register ECSA as a Non-Profit Company (NPC) to assist in funding the unit’s existence and to continue proactively responding to emergencies full time through donor/sponsors as it has become taxing on the team members' self-funding due to financial constraints.
